Groundhog

We've had to deal with several issues already in our yard and garden - rabbits, voles, slugs, and groundhogs. The resident groundhog had babies. Two that we've seen already. Emily loves to look out the window and alert us when they are out. If they are too close for comfort, then we go out to scare them back. This time, the new baby wasn't sure what to do.

It scrunched down to hide in the grass and just sat there as Emily plucked flower petals and sprinkled them on it as I ran back to the house for the camera and a laundry basket to contain it.

Still not going anywhere...we tried making lots of noise. I think there was barking and mooing.

So, one step closer and...

cover was blown!

Garden

We've been busy in the garden again this year.

We've managed to pick lots of greens already! And I built this for the cucumber.

Hooray for spring, though at the moment it already feels a lot like summer!

First Tooth

It started out as a wiggly tooth.

And then it was 'hanging by a thread'.

So more wiggling, and then pop in the middle of the night we were awoken by an excited little girl.

The tooth was taken by the tooth fairy and crushed up into fairy dust and sprinkled on her at night to help grow a new tooth. Yes, that is what she has worked out in her mind. Of course the tooth fairy left money too!

Castle

It was time to clean up the garage but before the boxes were cut down for recycling, the girls configured what they called their castle.

There was a couch, a garden, and other rooms. They especially enjoyed sitting on their couch to read on their 'nook'.

It took them the better part of an hour to work on this construction project, so we'll definitely be doing this again :) Good thing we kept the 'couch'!

Look!

"Look, I'm a pterodactyl!"

"Hey, don't laugh at me!"

Yes, we are at that phase too...it's so hard not to laugh when she says and does so many cute things.

Favorites too!

After I asked Hannah what her favorites were, Emily asked, "Mom, do you want to know mine?" Well, of course!

Also, here are a couple of funny conversations we've had in the last little while:

The first went something like this...
E: (as she gazes out the window) Mom, I wish I had a tail.
Mom: Um, really? why?
E: So I could be a cow.

The next went something like this...
E: Is it time to go outside? I want to wear my cape.
Mom: Ok, but usually you wear the cape inside so it won't get dirty. I think we should leave it in here.
E: But Mom, I really, really want to fly!

I love this stage that she's in right now, however I could definitely do without all the willful outbursts.

Favorites

Sometimes favorites can change at the blink of an eye.

And of course she couldn't choose just one of anything.

Birthday Time

Hannah had a birthday. Her sixth birthday in fact.

There was red velvet cake with pink frosting. And plenty of presents to open.

And best of all, sisters and parents to share the entire day with.

This year, we decided to celebrate by having a family day instead of a big party. Hannah got to choose the activity and the place for her special birthday meal. So, she chose to visit the art museum where we explored making art in the new children's art center and listened to a special reading of Runaway Bunny set to music. Which was quickly followed up by eating yummy Chinese food, taking naps, playing games, and eating our fill of cake, ice cream, popcorn, apples, and smoothies. Sounds like a fun filled day don't you think? Before bed she whispered, "This was the best day ever!" Based on that, this might actually become our new family tradition.

Crawling

Crawling has commenced and she's getting faster every day!  You might be able to get a better look at her great hair too.

The Hair

As you can see, the blog has been neglected (again). We've been busy but I guess since I don't have a third hand, I don't have any pictures to prove it...

We now have a baby who sits and crawls, which still needs to be documented, but at the moment we have her cute HAIR to show!

Trust me, it's much more interesting in person. Most people, including strangers at the grocery store love to look and comment on it. Thankfully, most people restrain themselves from running their hands through it.
